COVID-19, as we all know now, is a respiratory illness too.  Like the flu, COVID is highly contagious, having the potential to trigger super-spreader events with no known/approved vaccines.

Scientists, physicians and public health officials across the globe are concerned about the potential for a severe 2020 flu season which will heighten the already devastating COVID-19 Pandemic- causing the Twindemic.  One concern is that the flu severely weakens the immune system, making the likelihood of contracting other illnesses high. There’s also a healthy amount of fear that individuals who’ve unknowingly contracted COVID will treat their symptoms as the flu, delaying appropriate and potentially life saving medical treatment.

As a result, officials from across the world are sounding the alarm for the possibility of a “Twindemic” and have begun promoting and encouraging individuals to get flu shots this year while adhering to COVID-19 guidance.  Remember, hand hygiene is CRITICAL in the fight for health!
